Pool Glass Fence Ajax

Custom Pool Glass Fences Built to Ajax's Fence By-law

Ajax’s Fence By-law sets the height, gap, and gate requirements for a pool glass fence before you choose a style. Art Metal Workshop follows those rules from day one for your new installation or replacement.

Glass keeps your view of the pool open from the deck, the kitchen window, or wherever you’re watching from, which matters most when kids or pets are nearby. We build residential backyard fences the same way we build systems for shared condo pools or recreational properties, matching each one to the site and the Ontario Building Code.

Our team sets each panel on corrosion-resistant hardware, sized to your space and fabricated in-house.

Benefits of Pool Glass Fences for Ajax Properties

  • You can always see the pool from your deck or yard, so kids and pets near the water stay in view
  • Meets Ontario Building Code standards for height, climb resistance, and self-closing, self-latching gates
  • A clean, contemporary look that’s equally at home on Ajax’s older streets and in its newer subdivisions
  • Stands up to chlorine, pool chemicals, and the damp air that comes off Ajax’s stretch of Lake Ontario
  • A feature that adds real value to your property, not just a safety requirement
  • Hardware built to resist corrosion, so upkeep stays minimal year after year

Pool Glass Fence Styles We Install

Frameless Glass

  • With nothing but glass between you and the pool, there’s no post or frame to interrupt the view
  • Hardware sits below or behind each panel on base shoes or standoff fittings, so the frame itself disappears
  • Built from the same tempered or laminated safety glass we use across every pool fence option

Post-Mounted Glass

  • Slim steel or stainless steel posts carry the weight of each panel and keep them evenly spaced
  • Because the posts carry the structural load, the glass itself can remain thinner and lighter-looking
  • A practical step between a fully frameless system and a heavier framed one

Metal-Framed Glass

  • Each glass panel sits inside its own metal frame, which gives the whole fence a sharper outline
  • The frame carries extra load, adding reinforcement the glass doesn’t have to provide alone
  • A good fit if you want the fence to stand out as part of the yard’s design and not blend into the background

Frosted or Tinted Glass

  • You get privacy around the pool without losing natural light, since frosted or tinted panels still let it through
  • Opacity is adjustable, so you can choose how much of the pool area stays hidden from view
  • This glass option isn’t tied to one mounting style; it fits our frameless, post-mounted, or framed systems

Glass Pool Gates

  • Every gate closes and latches on its own, in line with what Ajax’s fence by-law sets out
  • The latch itself is mounted on the inside, near the top of the gate, out of reach from outside the enclosure
  • Glass type and hardware finish carry over from the rest of the fence, so the gate doesn’t look like an add-on

Commercial Pool Glass Barriers

  • Shared pools at condos, hotels, and recreational facilities get the same glass barrier systems as backyard installs
  • Ontario Building Code requirements still apply, whether the pool is private or shared
  • We fabricate these in-house, so a single gate and a full commercial enclosure go through the same process

What Ajax Requires for a Pool Enclosure

Under Ajax’s Fence By-law, a swimming pool enclosure must stand at least 1.5 m high, measured from the outside, including any gates, with no more than a 10 cm gap under the fence. The enclosure must be built from chain-link, vertical board-on-board, wrought iron, or an approved equivalent, and it must be at least 1.2 m from the water’s edge. Gates must be at least 1.5 m high, mounted on substantial hinges, self-closing, and fitted with a self-latching device on the inside near the top so it can’t be released from outside. You need a swimming pool enclosure permit before you excavate for or build a pool, and you can’t fill the pool with water until the enclosure is fully up. If your property has a heritage designation, a heritage permit is required before altering a fence on it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who applies for my swimming pool enclosure permit?

You do. The Town of Ajax requires the application to come from a property owner, and a contractor can’t sign or submit it on your behalf. We can help with the design details your application needs, but you’ll submit it to the Town yourself.

Yes. Ajax’s by-law places maintenance and compliance on the current property owner, not the builder. If you’re not sure an existing fence meets the by-law or has a permit on file, check with Ajax before relying on it.

At least 1.5 m, measured from the outside of the enclosure, including any gates.

Possibly, separately from the Town’s by-law. Some insurers set their own fence requirements as a condition of coverage, so it’s worth checking your policy alongside the municipal rules. We build to Ajax’s by-law, and you’ll need to discuss your insurer’s specific requirements with them directly.

Cost depends on size, glass type, design, site conditions, and finish. We’ll look at your space and give you a project-specific number.
