Toronto’s Zoning By-law 569-2013 also limits how far a canopy can reach into a required setback. In a front or rear yard, the limit is the lesser of 2.5 metres or half the required setback, as long as it stays as far from the side lot line as the required side yard setback. In a side yard, it can reach up to 1.5 metres, as long as it stays at least 0.3 metres from the side lot line.
